Keys to a Successful Birthday Party

If your child has a birthday coming up soon, it's time to start planning for that special day.

Here are some keys for planning a successful party:

1. Plan ahead. Don't wait until a few days before the party or you might end up with a disappointed child, friends and family.

2. Budget for the party. Sit down and talk with your spouse about budget before planning the party. Be sure you are together on the budget before you proceed with any further planning.

3. Decide who will be invited to the party. Involve your child in this step and consider the budget.

4. Buy or create invitations for the party. If possible, involve your child in this step.

5. Fill out and deliver the invitations.  Be considerate of other people's schedules and allow time for them to plan the party into their schedules. Involve your child in this step as well.

6. Have a written plan for the party. A written plan will help things flow smoothly. Thinking through things like how you want things to flow, how you will handle gift-giving, and who will play on what team for games, will create a peaceful and fun atmosphere.

7. Purchase party supplies and food. If possible, do any preparation prior to party day. This will eliminate stress and allow you to focus on your child on his/her special day. Involve your child and other family members in this step, as well. Visit Birthday In a Box online!

8. Finalize the details and celebrate your child's special day. Finish any last minute details and enjoy this special day with your child. Be sure to take pictures so you can capture the special memories.

9. Follow up with "thank-you cards" after the party. Teach your child to express his/her thankfulness to friends and family for their attendance at the party, as well as for gifts.
