Book Review
"Relationships"
by Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott
An
Open & Honest Guide to Making Bad Relationships Better and Good
Relationships Great
I am several chapters into reading this book and finding it very
helpful.
The bottom line is that Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott
offered a course on "relationships" at Seattle Pacific University and
it was a big hit, which is why they wrote the book.
Introduction: Our Longing for Belonging
Chapter One: The Compulsion for Completion
In the first two chapters, here's what I've come away with:
- It is only in the
context of connection (relationships) with others that our deepest
needs can be met. We need to belong.
- Dealing with the lies
that sabotage our relationships is a key to becoming whole.
Stay tuned
for more info on the book...

Parenting
Discover
-
Discover who your child is.
Every parent wants to
discover who their child is, to get to know that unique little person
who has been entrusted to our care. God created every person in
His image and He has a
perfect plan for our lives. Getting to know your child is an
adventure and can be a very rewarding and delightful experience in this
lifetime. Do you ever have "aha" moments about your child?
You know, where you say "aha, that's why he does that," or "aha, I love
that about him/her." If not, it's time to start discovering who
your child is. We hope to help you discover who your child is.
Delight
-
Delight in your child.
It's so important to
delight in and
play
with your child. First of all, all work and no play makes Jack a
dull boy. Secondly, if parents can have fun
with their child, it opens up a door for development to happen.
Understand that there's a purpose behind play, a very
important purpose! Discovery, delight, and development are all
woven together.
Develop
- Develop
your
child and your skills as a parent.
Every parent knows
they
have
a responsibility to develop their child(ren). We want our
children to grow up and be productive, contributing members of society
and we know that doesn't happen without development on our part.
We also know it takes work and energy to teach them responsibility and
to build character into their lives. As parents, we can always be
learning more about the development of our children. We need help
from other people because we don't have all the answers. This
means we need ongoing input and training ourselves.
So,
this week,
take time to
discover, delight in, and develop your child.
