Family Fun Ideas

Seasonal fun!

Read a good book together.

Walk a mall together as a family and sit and enjoy an ice-cold or steamy hot beverage together.

Go shopping!

Send flowers to someone!

When school starts!
Take a few extra minutes to plan fun lunches for your child's first day back to school. Or tuck a special note into their backpack with a treat. The most simple things can show your love and make life fun for them!

Cold-weather fun!

Have a campout in your living room when the weather's cold.

Go to a neighborhood gym to play volleyball or basketball.

Set up a nerf basketball hoop in a prominent place in your home and play basketball as a family for 10 minutes!

Go bowling.

Go to a hotel/motel for a night.

Have kids dress up as waiters/waitresses and serve parents a meal.

Watch a movie or video together.

Family Bagit Skits:
Divide into teams. Put 5-6 items in a bag.  Give 5 minutes to come up with a skit based on the items. Videotape each performance. When done make popcorn and view together.

Boredom Busters:
Visit Amazing Moms Boredom Busters for a great list of activites to break your kids of the boredom blues!

Warm-weather fun!

Go to a park.

Go out for ice cream.

Have a campout in your yard when the weather is nice.

Go roller blading.

Take a bike ride together.

Go fishing.

Go to a water park for an afternoon.

Fly a kite on a windy day.

Any time fun!

Play a favorite board game, card game or any game:
Spoons, Phase 10, Crazy 8, Hand & Foot, Pinnocle, I Spy With My Little Eye,
Pictionary, Guess Who, Monopoly, Chess/Checkers, Battleship

Read a book together as a family.
Set aside a couple of hours per week to read the book outloud together. You could have a special snack during this time too!

Listen to a good CD together. Take time to worship as a family.

Play hide-and-seek as a family.
This can be lots of fun, from young ages to the oldest.

Be spontaneous and take a weekend trip together. Even more crazy, book a flight for the whole family! Visit that relative you've been intending to visit, or just pick any destination and take a trip.

Take turns telling jokes
Don't be so serious that you forget to have fun together.  Laugh together and release some endorphins!

Visit a fun and educational website together.
For example, Fact Monster.com has Almanac, Atlas, Dictionary, and Encyclopedia pages that include everything from World news, biographies on over 30,000 people, US history, Science, Math, Sports, Word facts and games!

Pray Together as a Family:
Pass out a handful of M&M's to your kids.  Then take turns praying by assigning different things to different colored M&Ms.  For example if you have a BLUE M&M, pray for a leader - the president or a political or church leader.  If you have a RED M&M, pray for a family member.  If you have a YELLOW M&M, pray for a school teacher, student, friend, or co-worker.  And if you have a GREEN M&M, pray for a personal need.  You can pick the prayer topics you want to cover in your family. This is fun because it helps you to pray specifically for others and everyone loves a treat! You can substitute any candy or treat that has different colors.  Pick your family's favorite treat(s) and have fun praying together!

Have a theme birthday party
For example a "space" theme.  Each room in your house can be named: the sun room, the moon room, the launching pad, the landing pad.  Plan appropriate activities for each room. The launching pad could have bubble blowing outside on a deck. The landing pad could be a family room with a special astronaut movie. The sun and moon rooms could be discovery rooms!

Share your opinion and make a difference. Even the kids can get involved with online surveys and share their opinions about products and services.

Send an e-card to a friend or family member. Dayspring has some really nice FREE e-cards for birthdays, holidays, thank-you cards and more!

Make a fun change in your child's room!
He or she can help save money for a car bed (or a princess bed). Sometimes making a simple change like this can add lots of fun to a child's life.

Take some fun digital pictures and send them to friends and/or family!
